چکیده
Abstract Peat soil has a relatively high water content of up to 400%. With moisture content, peat can hinder construction work. For this reason, in planning, an investigation must be carried out on the characteristics and strength soil, especially properties that affect bearing capacity withstand load it. This study aimed determine changes after mixing with cement iron oxide admixture. The variation is 0%, 4%, 8%, 16%, while for mixture 5%. research was conducted including testing physical mechanical properties. Engineering tests include direct shear consolidation tests. elemental chemical SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) test. Based classification at location ash content-value 29.41%, it classified as High Ash (peat > 25%). Effect of cement on compressibility and microstructure of tropical peat
Peats are geotechnically problematic soil due to their high compressibility and low shear strength. Cement is widely used for the stabilization of peat by deep mixing method (DMM). This paper presents the results of the model study of compressibility property of peats stabilized with cement columns formed by DMM. The results of consolidation test, scanning electron micrographs (SEM) and energy ...
متن کاملCompressibility Behavior of Tropical Peat Reinforced with Cement Columns
This paper presents the compressibility of tropical peat reinforced with cylindrical cement columns. When a cement column is installed vertically in peat, its compressibility is reduced because of the hardened skeleton matrix formed by cement particles bonding with adjacent soil particles in the presence of pore water. The effects of the cement column diameter on the compressibility have been i...
متن کاملTropical Peat Soil Stabilization using Class F Pond Ash from Coal Fired Power Plant
This paper presents the stabilization potential of Class F pond ash (PA) from a coal fired thermal power station on tropical peat soil. Peat or highly organic soils are well known for their high compressibility, natural moisture content, low shear strength and long-term settlement. This study investigates the effect of different amount (i.e., 5, 10, 15 and 20%) of PA on peat soil, collected fro...
متن کاملPotentiostatically Poised Electrodes Mimic Iron Oxide and Interact with Soil Microbial Communities to Alter the Biogeochemistry of Arctic Peat Soils
Dissimilatory metal-reducing bacteria are ubiquitous in soils worldwide, possess the ability to transfer electrons outside of their cell membranes, and are capable of respiring with various metal oxides. Reduction of iron oxides is one of the more energetically favorable forms of anaerobic respiration, with a higher energy yield than both sulfate reduction and methanogenesis. As such, this proc...
